These 8 single-page comics were made between 2001 and 2009.
I moved from Baltimore to New York City in the Spring of 2001. To help me figure out my next steps in life, I decided to go to graduate school. The initial shock of the attacks on 9/11 and the lingering anxiety weighed heavily on everything and everyone. Feeling mentally blocked, I had difficulty coming up with stories for my comics. Unfortunately, I was too stubborn and egotistical to illustrate existing stories, so I settled for focusing on my own specific moods and moments to explore the use of panel layouts.
My thesis project explored interactive layouts in web comics. Readers were provided with specific, content-driven means of manipulating a comic’s composition to reveal new juxtapositions and meanings.
Some of the artwork made for this thesis project was reworked into the comics collected here.
