BALTIMORE COMIC CON 2022

This was a rough show, for various reasons. The previous week was very busy in our professional and personal lives. Any prep and packing for the show had to be done on Thursday night. The next morning, we both slept on a train from Manhattan to Baltimore and went directly to the Convention Center to...

SMALL PRESS EXPO 2022

So, I thought I’d have enough books.  This was my second time doing SPX. Tables are gotten via lottery and I got one back in 2012. I met some great people, but my book/art sales were not enough to cover my expenses. Ten years later, with new material in hand, I thought I’d give SPX...

FAN EXPO BOSTON 2022

This was a whirlwind of a show. We packed the night before (four bags for the books, art, table dressing and displays, clothes, food, toiletries, etc.) and were on a train from Manhattan to Boston before 7am on Friday. The convention center was a 20-minute walk from the train station. We got the table set...

FAN EXPO PHILADELPHIA 2022

This was my first time doing a show in Philadelphia and my first time participating in FAN EXPO. It was a big show, where the Artist Alley felt isolated, but still in the middle of everything that was going on. There was a stage with live music on the far end in one direction and...

BIG APPLE COMIC CON 2022

This was my second show since I finished and printed Utopian Musings. I wasn’t sure how an illustrated book of poetry would be received at a convention where most of the floor space was dedicated to folks selling back issues and the original art from comics put out by the major publishers, but it was...

BALTIMORE COMIC CON 2021

My wife Tanima joined me for my first convention in 7 years. She was a little nervous about doing the hard sale to complete strangers, but she found her groove and did great. By Sunday, we were both exhausted, but managed to attend the Ringo Awards, explore the Inner Harbor and have dinner (and dessert)...

BALTIMORE COMIC CON 2014

The Super Duper Ham series that I had launched the previous year was revealed to have a number of narrative issues that I needed to address. I decided that if I were to continue the series, I’d have to start it over. So for this show, I decided to withhold the remaining copies of SDH....

GRAND COMICS FESTIVAL 2014

This Brooklyn-based show was arranged by filmmaker and cartoonist Pat Dorian, who was kind enough to include me. Unfortunately, I went into it with the products and strategies that had served me well at shows like Comic Con. I didn’t understand the difference in what people were selling and how they sold it in this...

MOCCA ARTS FEST 2014

I published a 2nd edition of Sketches and Streams, which included Robots Follow Me Home and Blanco y Negro. Around this time, I started to see the need for new material. It had only been around 6 months since NYC Comic Con (also in Manhattan). There were plenty of people who had not bought, or...

NY COMIC CON 2013

This show was the beginning of the next phase. I was launching a new series Super Duper Ham, a re-imaging of my 2009 comic. I felt really good about the project and some friends stopped by to help me out at the table. I met more fellow comics-makers. It was a great show.
