This 6-page comic features writer Gary Shteyngart and actor Paul Giamatti. I was invited to watch them as they filmed a promotional video for Gary’s book Super Sad True Love Story in 2011.
I brought my camera to document the shoot. At home, I arranged my photos into a narrative sequence and then created page compositions that revealed a 6-page comic that focuses on Gary and Paul’s canine co-star. I did quick tracings of the photographs onto paper, which I then inked in with a liberal amount of crosshatching. I made the panel layouts in Adobe Illustrator and combined them with the line art in Photoshop. At this point, I incorporated my original photographs to create the grayscale elements.
On the Promenade was self-published part my anthology Sketches and Streams in 2012, 2014 and 2021.
