Inspired by the illustration styles of Frank Miller and Kent Williams, I drew this 8-page comic in 1997.
I liked the idea of a villain that could be redeemed, rather than destroyed. Making it a robot that could be neutralized and reprogrammed seemed like a pretty straightforward scenario.
Robots Follow Me Home was first printed as part of the second edition of my comics anthology Sketches and Streams in 2014.
The cover for Robots Follow Me Home was created in 2019, when I was printing the third edition of Sketches and Streams. Printouts of the text were physically distressed, layered together and scanned into the computer. I also took the opportunity to update the robot’s instructions and chest display in the panel art.
