For the comics Momentos, Flying Solo, Super Duper Ham: Day One and Martian Debut, each element of each panel was drawn on paper and scanned into electronic form separately. This process made it possible to build, layer, and edit panel and page compositions in the computer.
Some of these partial images, as well as some previously unpublished work, were combined in a series of digital and handmade collages. In contrast to the careful process used for the comic book pages, the creation of these new compositions was fluid and spontaneous.
On several occasions, I have published a selection of these collages in sketchbooks called Cut and Pasted to be sold at conventions. Each time has provided me with a new opportunity to reassess how I am presenting this material and push myself to do better as a graphic designer.
